Abstract

The polarised relay is for differential circuit breakers. The relay has high sensitivity and high repeatability. The relay is of the type that is fed directly from the differential transformer or fault detector and is less prone to difficulties with manufacturing tolerances and avoids saturation of the shunt magnetic circuit. The magnetic circuit of the relay consists of one 'L'-shaped element carrying a deenergising coil (34) on one leg and a second such leg completing the loop with a permanent magnet (30). A further 'L' shaped section (12) acts as the second magnetic circuit with a sprung (48) armature plate (24).
