Abstract

The lower cylindrical part of the stopper is tapered to facilitate introduction into the neck of a container. The diameter of part (5) is such as to provide sufficient interference to ensure sealing during sterilisation of liquid in the container. The rim (8) is engaged in the container during sterilisation and when this has been completed the stopper is pushed home so the relieved annulus (11) engages to top of the container. Sealing is improved as the flange (10) is not subjected to mechanical restraint during sterilisation.
