Abstract

The hot and cold water mixing tap has two inlets through which the separate streams of hot and cold water flow to the orifice in a fixed plate. A sliding plate above the fixed plate has a large rectangular orifice which connects the inlet orifices in the plate to the outlet pipe. Operating the lever moves the sliding plate so that the total flow remains constant but the ratio of hot to cold changes. Rotating the knob moves the sliding plate so that the flow varies but the temperature remains constant.
