Abstract

Dans les dispositifs pour coupler des fibres photoconductrices, on utilise habituellement un milieu de couplage dont l'indice de réfraction est égal à celui du noyau des fibres pour éviter ainsi les pertes par réflexion aux faces frontales des fibres. Toutefois, ces pertes ne l'emportent pas sur les pertes par distraction si la distance entre les faces frontales n'est (pratiquement) pas égale à zéro. Les pertes par distraction résultent de la divergence d'un faisceau de rayonnement sortant de la fibre. Du fait d'utiliser un milieu de couplage dont l'indice de réfraction est plus grand que celui du noyau de fibre, on limite la divergence du faisceau et, partant, également les pertes par distraction. La diminution de ces pertes est notablement plus grande que l'accroissement des pertes par réflexion par suite de la différence en indice de réfraction aux faces frontales des fibres. Application à l'appareillage optique utilisé en médecine.
