Abstract

L'acier est produit à partir de matières solides contenant du fer, telles que des ferrailles, dans un convertisseur 1 dont la maçonnerie réfractaire est traversée par des tuyères 4 permettant d'injecter dans le convertisseur des gaz oxydants, confinés sous un milieu protecteur. On injecte les gaz oxydants par des tuyères 4 disposées à la partie inférieure du convertisseur, pour brûler avec les gaz des matières contenant du carbone. On assure, essentiellement de bas en haut, l'écoulement des gaz de combustion chauds, à travers la masse des débris solides à base de fer. On réalise ainsi un préchauffage des matières solides par les gaz chauds, pour obtenir la fusion des matières solides à base de fer, et effectuer l'affinage du bain de fusion par l'oxygène dans le même convertisseur 1. Application aux convertisseurs d'aciérie, pour en améliorer le rendement et la souplesse d'utilisation, notamment en cas d'absence de fonte de haut-fourneau.
