Abstract
The liquid helium container (200) high voltage entrant bush has a coaxial conducting core (22, 24). This core can be raised to a high electrical potential. An insulating sheath (28) surrounds the outer conducting core (24). Another coaxial conductor (32) surrounding the insulating sheath (28), is connected to earth. This ensures that the potential difference acts over the thickness of the sheath. Inside the container the diameter of the insulating sheath (28) increases till it reaches the end of the exterior conductor (32) whose diameter also increases in proportion. At the end of the exterior conductor (32) the insulating sheaths diameter increases further to form circular crown. The diameter of this crown progressively reduces to the end of the insulating sheath. The external conductor (32) covers the exterior of the insulating sheath up to the formation of the crown and finishes at the crown.
