Abstract

The safety valve for the gas supply to a central heating system has a valve head (13) pressed on to its seat by a spring. The valve can be opened by pulling the knob (11) and the valve is then help open by the tip (10) of the lever (8) pressing against the projection (9). The solenoid (7) is normally de-energised but is connected to a circuit containing a number of sensors. These sensors detect the presence of carbon monoxide. of flame, or of gas leaks. When a sensor is actuated it closes a switch which energises the solenoid (7) which acts on the lever (8) and swings the tip (10) away from the projection (9) and allowing the spring to close the valve (13).
