Abstract

Thermal insulating mass made from an initially liq., hardenable binder contg. closely packed and evenly distributed insulating bodies. The novelty is that the bodies are hollow with gas-tight outer shells possessing a ratio shell thickness/dia. of the hollow body of mix. 0.1; and the hollow bodies are filled with a gas which has a thermal conductivity lower than that of air. The hollow bodies are pref. made of glass or plastic and pref. have a spherical or cylindrical shape; the bodies are pref. filled with xenon, and the outer surface of the bodies is pref. roughened. The thermally insulating mass is pref. used as a facing material, e.g. in the building industries. Reduces heat losses through walls, partitions etc., which is very important in view of the high cost of heating oil. The insulation can also be used for pipes in power stations, no further insulation being required.
