Abstract

Fireproof insulating material incorporates one or more layers of cellular material made of porous carbon or carbonised forms of expanded phenolic, polyurethane or polystyrene resin, and a coating or cover made of particles of a refractory mineral. Used for mfr. of flat or curved panels, esp. with an insulating core 4-50 mm thick and a refractory skin 2-4 mm thick, suitable for oven insulation. Extends the upper temp. limit for performance of lightweight thermal insulation based on an organic foam layer from ca. 200 degrees C to ca. 1000-1400 degrees C.
