Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a thermometer and thermostat of simple, small-sized and light- weight constitution by controlling an electric connection between conductors by moving a material which is incorporated in an electric insulating pipe and has excellent conductivity and high volume expansion coefficient. CONSTITUTION:In a glass pipe 1 of electric insulation, mercury 2, etc., having excellent conductivity and high volume expansivity is sealed. On the external circumference of the pipe 1, a scale 6 is provided and in addition to a conductor 3 connecting with mercury 2, similar conductors 4 and 5 are arranged at position corresponding to the set temperature scale 6. Then, a connection between the conductors 3 an 4, or 3 and 5 through mercury 2 is controlled to perform desired thermostat operation, thus obtaining a simple, small-sized and lightweight thermometer and thermostat.
