Abstract

The lubrication system is for high speed rolling bearings used on electric motors. The shaft (1) is provided with a ball bearing (2) and oil is directed by a nozzle (4) onto the inner race (5). Some of the oil flows from the chamber (3) into the chamber (11). The rest of the oil flows through the bearing into the chamber (16). The oil from the chambers (11, 16) flows into the passage (20) where it is returned to the pump. The leakage of oil along the sleeves (8, 9) is prevented by the knife edge seals (13, 19). The spaces (12, 18) between consecutive seals is vented to atmosphere so that there is no pressure to force the oil past the seals.
