Abstract

The machine has a rotating shaft which carries with it a cylinder block containing axial cylinders with reciprocating pistons. The pistonss have spherical ends which seat in an annular groove in an inclined swashplate which remains stationary and is supported on a semi spherical end cap (2) on the shaft (3). The cylinder block (1) is keyed to the shaft and has a small diameter nose on its end projecting inside the semi spherical cap (2). The key between the cylinder block and shaft runs in this end piece. The plane of the force between shaft and cylinder block therefore runs through the centre (O) of the semi spherical end cap which eliminates the couple between swashplate and shaft that would otherwise exist.
