Abstract

The extraction tool comprises a threaded traction rod with a thrust sleeve (7), a cylindrical thrust block (8), a thrust bearing unit (9) and a nut (10) which screws onto the traction rod. The traction rod has a spring loaded anchor bar (3) which is operated by means of a cable. In use the rod is inserted through the half shaft sleeve and the anchor bar pivoted to bear on the inaccessible end of the half shaft. The above components are now assembled on the projecting rod and nut rotation effects half shaft extraction. The remounting tool has an extended tie rod which traverses both half shafts. The rod which is threaded at both ends is anchored by a nut against the outer face of the remote half shaft. A sleeved nut with a thrust bearing is then screwed onto the other rod end to force the new half shaft home.
