Abstract

The otter board comprises a flat steel panel (1) with a reinforced bottom edge (2), the board being weighted to remain vertical in use. Along the bottom and top edges are welded symmetrically curved plates (5), these projecting forwards of the panel and meeting along its horizontal centre line (6). Reinforcing bars welded perpendicular to the panel meet at this point and carry bearings (8, 9, 10) in which pivots a flat attachment plate (11, 12) for the hauling cable. A horizontal bar (13), behind the panel, has several holes (14) for regulating the trawl net opening. In the panel is an aperture, regulated by a shutter, which adjusts the towing characteristics.
