Abstract

[Also in Divisions C1 and E1] An enclosure for an area of water polluted by oil comprises a flexible wall 1 (e.g. of plastics or aluminium sheet) having means 2 (e.g. foamed plastics) to enable it to float, and weights 4 along one edge, the wall being windable on to a drum. The wall 1 may have stiffeners 5 and may be perforated below the waterline. The wall may be carried on a pair of drums 9, 10 or 11, 12 with vertical axes from which it is unwound when the pair of drums are partially immersed in water. There may be at least two pairs of drums carried on a ship 7, having a belt conveyer 8 of plastics or metallic net to skin the oil from the water after it has been mixed with an oil binding agent (e.g. a special peat).
