Abstract

An appts. for producing fire-extinguishing foam incorporates two air - tight receivers, a mixing vessel and a source of fluid under press. One receiver contains a halogen cpd, eg, chlorobromodifluoromethane and the other water contg. an emulsifying agent. The mixing vessel has in it two jets converted to the receivers and a dip-tube for discharging the emulsion. The source of fluid under press, is a bottle of inert gas, eg, N2 highly compressed. The receiver contg. water may be replaced by a supply from a fire hydrant. The installation gives a flow of fire-extinguishing foam at a constant press. so that it is projected to a constant distance, whereas in existing installations the press. falls as the receiver empties.
