Abstract

The cylindrical float chamber (4) is bolted to the pipeline (1) and its upper end has a cover plate (8) with a large central orifice (9). The float (5) slides in guides (6) and is provided with a pointed valve head (7). The valve plate (10) slides on guide rods (13) and (14) attached to the cover plate (8). When the pipeline is being filled with water, air flows out through the orifice (9) until the water level rises sufficiently to push the float (5) upwards and the plate (10) closes the orifice (9). Air bubbles which afterwards collect in the float chamber depress the water level and cause the float to sink and open the sonic orifice (11), allowing the air to escape.
