Abstract

1,263,222. Filling bottles. STORK-JANSEN & SUTORIUS N.V. 26 Feb., 1970 [28 March, 1969], No. 9442/70. Heading B8T. [Also in Division F2] A filling nozzle for filling liquids under pressure, has a valve member (9), Fig. 1 (not shown), in a housing 4 at the lower end of a gas conduit 3. The valve is characterized by having magnetic material arranged at its upper end at (13), Fig. 1 (not shown). In operation needle valve 17 is opened so that gas under pressure passes through pipe 3 forcing the valve member (9), Fig. 1 (not shown), downwards so that the bottle is flushed with gas. Valve 18 then opens permitting liquid to flow down into the bottle. When the liquid level in the bottle reaches the lower end of the housing 4, i.e. hole (8), Fig. 1 (not shown), the valve member (9) is forced up against the lower end of tube 3. After this has occurred the pressure in the bottle rises eventually preventing any more liquid flowing into the bottle, and valve 18 then closes. The vent tube 20 then lowers the pressure in the neck of the bottle to atmospheric pressure, the gas in tube 3 is released since the excess pressure then forces valve member (9) from the bottom of tube 3 and the gas in tube 3 escapes via holes 6 above the liquid level, so that no frothing of the contents of the bottle occurs. The bottle is then removed from the filling head and the filling cycle recommences. The magnetic material on valve (9) reduces the force necessary to lift the valve member into contact with the lower end of tube 3 and prevents the valve member from opening once it has closed unless some pressure differential develops across it.
