Abstract

The aircraft disc brake has a rotating disc which is attached to a formed disc carrier and has a radially inward extension with integral impeller blades to give a radial air flow over the disc. Air is fed to the inside of the disc by a tubular inlet, over the disc between two formed sheet steel rings and out through a tubular exhaust all mounted on a support plate. For additional cooling, air can be forced through the inlet by an electric blower. The cooling air is drawn in from a shuttered, pollution free area such as under the engine housing of the aircraft.
