Abstract

A marine oil tanker which normally uses exhaust gases from the ship's engines to give an innert atmosphere inside the oil tanks when they are empty as a safety procedure, so that there is no danger of an explosionM includes an auxiliary system of introducing this inert gas, when the engines are not working.
