Abstract

1492400 Fire prevention in oil tankers F A HUGHES & CO Ltd 23 July 1975 [23 July 1974] 32554/74 Heading A5A [Also in Division B7] An inlet gas system for preventing explosions in an oil tanker comprises boiler exhausts 1, 2 a scrubber/cooler 6, valves 3A, 4A, 5A between the exhausts and the scrubber/cooler, a line 12 with blowers 13, 14 for connection to the tanks of the vessel, an auxiliary inert gas generator 8 connected to a point between the valve 5A and the scrubber/cooler and a bleed line 19 connected between a point between the valves 4A, 5A and the outlet downstream of the blowers. This arrangement ensures that air does not leak into the system from the exhausts 1, 2 when the main boiler is inoperative.
