Abstract
1434078 Valves CLARK CHAPMAN Ltd 8 Aug 1974 [21 Aug 1973 8 Sept 1973] 39405/73 and 42326/73 Heading F2V [Also in Division F4] A valve member 208, Fig. 6, is rotatable about an axis 210 to divert a gas flow from an inlet 202 to either of two outlets 204, 206. The member 208 may be elliptical or it may consist of a rectangular plate 100, Fig. 2, with semicircular flanges 102, 104. In further embodiments, the plate is inclined to the axis or forms a continuous curve (500, Fig. 5), one of the outlets is formed at one end of the housing 199, or two elliptical members 214, 216, Fig. 8, which may be secured to part-cylindrical shrouds 218, 200 are used. The peripheries of the valve members may be fitted with a resilient sealing strip. In one application, the valve inlet is connected to the exhaust of a marine diesel engine while the outlets are connected to the main fire tubes and to a by-pass duct of a waste-heat boiler. The by-pass duct (420, Fig. 15) may be arranged externally of the main boiler (400) or internally (221, Fig. 12) and be fitted with a silencer consisting of rows of transverse tubes (223).
