Abstract

771,106. Exhaust-sllencers. ANERO, H. Oct. 11, 1955 [Nov. 1, 1954], No. 28939/55. Class 7 (2). A closed casing 1 is divided by one or more partitions 2 into compartments, and straight pipes 3, 4 and 5 are arranged in the end walls of the casing and in all or some of the partitions, the terminal ends 6 of the pipes within the casing being irregularly toothed or jagged. The pipes 3 may all be equal in diameter or may vary in diameter, and may be in axial alignment, or at least one of the pipes may be inclined relatively to the partition in which it is arranged or to the general direction of the flow of gases ; also, more than one pipe may be arranged in any one partition. Some of the partitions may be provided with one or more apertures the edges of which are toothed or jagged. The points of the teeth formed on the ends of the pipes may be in or out of alignment with one another, and where the teeth are narrow and the pipes are made of thin material the ends of the teeth are interconnected by a ring of metal wire.
