Abstract

A heat exchanger with a tube bundle arrangement, with an inner tube (3) conveying air located concentrically inside each outer tube (2) through which the hot gases pass, has a series of flat plates (4) mounted on the inner tube, at an angle of 45 deg. to the axis of the tubes, facing alternately in opposite directions so that one plate is at right angles to the next, thus causing a large proportion of the gas to follow a zig-zag path to improve the heat exchange effect. These plates may be rectangular or oval, with an elongated hole for the inner tube, or may be U shaped, and the plates are welded onto the tube at the points of contact.
