Abstract

1466149 Tubular heat exchangers DAIMLERBENZ AG 5 June 1974 [9 June 1973] 24956/74 Heading F4S In a tubular heat exchanger in which a hot gas (e.g. from a gas turbine) flows (e.g. in direction 15) over tubes 14 connected at their ends to a header compartment 10 conveying a colder gas (e.g. compressed air) to and from the tubes, the joints 16 between the tubes and the header are protected from the direct flow of hot gas thereover by a guard plate 17, preferably spaced 5 to 6 mm. from the header wall, said plate having holes therein corresponding with the tube spacing and each tube passing through its corresponding hole with a radial clearance. The guard plate is secured to the header by angle plates 18 and by tension elements 19 and 20. Only those tube joints (approximately half of the total) directly confronting the hot gas stream need be protected by the guard plate.
