Abstract

The solar heating system employs cells (2) formed by superimposing a transparent corrugated sheet (8) on top of a thicker corrugated sheet (9) with a black upper surface, with the crests in contact, and supported by e.g. foam material (17), with tubes (3) bent into a hairpin shape, inside each cell. These tubes contain the heat exchange fluid, and are connected to header tubes (4, 5). The ends of the cells are closed by plates (11, 12) and supported intermediately by further plates (14), at right angles to the tubes (3). In an alternative design, a single tube passes through each cell, and in another design the cells are elongated. Further design variations employ outer tubes instead of cells, to house the fluid conveying tubes.
