Abstract
1455103 Electrode grid for lead storage battery VARTA BATTERIE AG 16 May 1975 [25 May 1974] 20928/75 Heading H1B An electrode grid for a lead storage battery comprises an expanded metal support 1 for the active material, a frame 2 formed of a lead wire having an aluminium core, and a lug 4 formed by the ends of the wire. An additional reinforcing loop or loops 3 of lead wire with an aluminium core may be provided, the ends of which form part of the lug 4. The grid may be made of a Pb/Ca alloy (e.g. comprising 0À05% Ca, 0À65% Sn, 0À5% Hg) and the core of the lead wire may be made of a high strength Al/Mg alloy; the cross-section of the wire may be circular, rectangular or trapezoidal. It is stated that the grid of the invention results in a weight reduction of 30% and a conductivity improvement of 62%, and the grid lends itself easily to automated manufacture. The grid may be used as the negative electrode in a lead storage battery.
