Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the life of the electrode of a battery and minimize the decrease of initial capacity by adding lignin or a lignin derivative to a pastelike active material of a positive electrode, which is filled in such a way that it has a specified filling density. CONSTITUTION:A lead powder is kneaded with water and H2SO4 to make a pastelike active material. Lingin or a lingin derivative such as lignin sulfonate or thiolignin is added to the pastelike active material, and this is filled in a positive grid made of a lead-tin-arsenic alloy or the like in such a way that the filling density of that is 3.7-5.5g/cc. The amount of the addition of lignin or a lignin derivative is preferred to be 0.05-3.0wt% of the active powder.
