Abstract
PURPOSE:To build up the extent of strength in a negative electrode and check any disintegration attendant upon charging and discharging as well as to aim at the promotion of longevity for charge-discharge cycle life by using such one that added alkaline earth metal of rare earth metal to a combination of lithium, indium and gallium as the negative electrode of a cell. CONSTITUTION:In case of a nonaqueous secondary cell which makes a positive electrode 2, a negative electrode 4 consisting of a metallic negative electrode active material that reversibly occludes and discharges lithium and a nonaqueous electrolyte containing lithium salt as the main constituent element, the negative electrode 4 active material is constituted of any of an alloy of lithium and indium, an alloy of lithium and gallium and an alloy of lithium, indium and gallium as well as any of alkaline earth metal and rare earth metal, the alkaline earth metal and the rare earth metal are further added to the alloy that combines lithium, gallium and indium, whereby improvement in strength of the alloy is well promoted, therefore disintegration of the electrode is checked, thus cycle life in the electrode is improvable.
