Abstract

Casting ladle is lined by applying a compsn. contg. by wt., (a) 40-80 (50-75) % one or more powdery or granular refractory materials, e.g. highly refractory Al2O3, fireproof clay, rose-material (roseki), SiO2, MgO, dolomite and/or Cr oxide, (b) 10-30 (15-25)% powdered or granular exothermic metal(s) or alloy(s), e.g. Al, FeSi and/or CaSi, (c) 3-20 (5-15)% oxidising agent to promote oxidn. of metal or alloy and (d) 5-10% inorganic or organic binder, to inside of ladle sheel, either directly or on an intermediate refractory lining. Total surface of deposited compsn. is then heated in order to oxidise metal or alloy (b) with oxidising agent (c) and use heat of oxidn. to sinter lining compsn. Used for casting small articles of cast iron, ductile- and malleable cast iron, as well as large ladles for casting steel and steel bars.
