Abstract

The furnace for burning pulverised solid fuel has a double-walled cylindrical vessel (1) with a refractory lining (10) one end, and a discharge opening (4) at the other end, with a fan (26) near the refractory lining for injecting fuel tangentially to act as a pilot burner and above this is a vertical tube (11) with a further fan (12) which injects primary air and the pulverised fuel tangentially at a point closely alongside when the refractory lining reaches a working temperature, so that the pilot burner can be shut down. Further air is then injected tangentially through a set of vertical tubes (29) further along the vessel, nearer the discharge opening (4). Cooling liquid is fed between the double walls by a supply pipe (6) near the refractory lining.
