Abstract

The free piston engine-compressor has cooling fins surrounding the combustion chamber, the air cushion end and the control gear. The engine is surrounded by a casing which is provided with an inlet filter and a side outlet. The outlet houses a fan driven by a turbine supplied with air from the engine driven scavenge pump. Cooling air is drawn through the filter and circulates around the fins and then through the fan and out through a silencer. Some of the air entering the filter enters the engine and the compressor through separate ports.
