Abstract
The diesel engine (1) drives a fan (3) which draws air through the radiator (2) of the main cooling system. The fan (2) is surrounded by a shroud (5) with stator blades (9) which deflect air into the torus (6) and delivers it to the heat exchanger (10). The heat exchanger (10) cools the air from the supercharger before it is delivered to the engine cylinders. The cooling air then passes along the pipe (18) into the exhaust duct (16) where it is ejected from the pipe (17) creating a low pressure in the exhaust pipe and so further improving the engine performance. The shroud (5) also reduces the noise generated by the fan (3).
