Abstract

Noise-reduction arrangement for IC engines in which the conventional engine cooling fan is replaced by one or (pref.) two encased (16, 17) centrifugal or axial-radial fans (11, 12) operating in parallel. Inlet ducts (14, 15) connect these fans to the radiator (9) and have outlet ducts (16a, 17a) leading into a noise-absorbing casing (13) surrounding the engine and (pref.) gearbox. There are additional cooling air outlets for the brakes (17b) and for airflow to improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle (17c). In addition to the effect of the engine casing (13), noise reduction also results from the greater efficiency of the encased fans, compared with conventional ones.
