Abstract

The cooling unit for the lorry engine is mounted in a compact housing on the cab roof, the front of the housing having a full width radiator (4). The inside of the housing directs the airflow to a fan (7) with vertical axis to blow the warmed air out through the top. The engine occupies a short space to that maximum length is available for the load. The engine is also cooled by a fresh air stream rather than by air warmed by the radiator. The flat mounting of the fan allows large dia. fans to be used with a subsequent reduction in blade tip speed and noise.
