Abstract

The open end spanner head has one jaw which is pivoted on the handle about a pin. The other jaw slides within the first jaw and its toothed section is engaged with the toothed segment of the handle top. The components of this spanner can be forge finished without subsequent machining operations. The spanner has handle carrying a pivoted guide member which carries two spanner jaws of which the jaw is an integral part of the guide with forged and finish machined dovetail guide groove for the sliding jaw. The sliding jaw has teeth which engage with those in the handle top. The tension spring connecting the handle and the guide tends to close the spanner jaws. The spanner size is adjusted by thumb movements.
