Abstract
1440032 Vices G W THOMAS 29 March 1975 [30 March 1974] 14225/74 Heading B3B A woodworking vice has a workpiece stop G attached to its movable jaw A by means of a vice cheek D, which has a slot F to receive the stop G, and a screw L which passes through holes K and B in the cheek D and the movable jaw A. The screw L may run alongside the stop G so that its head overlaps and grips the edge of the stop (Fig. 2, not shown). Alternatively holes C, which are used for the normal screws for holding the cheek D to the jaw A, are used also to clamp one or more stops G (Fig. 5, not shown). spring O housed in a sleeve N allows the screw clamping wing nut Q to be slackened to re-adjust the stop without it dropping freely. The screw L may pass through a longitudinal slot or an edge rebate of the stop, and a spring may be used to cause the stop to spring upwards when the screw is slackened. The stop G is used in conjunction with a further stop positioned further along the bench on which the vice is mounted. The jaw A can be made of metal and the cheek D can be made of wood.
