Abstract

Method of ensuring the sealing against the ingress of water into joints formed between an underground cable and an aerial or overhead section, is designed to overcome problems due to slight variations in cable diameter etc. The ground cable is brought up vertically through a shaped flange providing the required voltage insulation into a ribbed sleeve fitted to the end to be connected to the aerial section. Before such connection is made a mushroom shaped cap of some elastic material is pushed over the aerial section. Its interior surface is ribbed mating with that of the junction sleeve and has a lip which rides over the lower insulation and snaps into a groove on it. The shape of the cap is such as to shed water effectively.
