Abstract
The design for relay elements has the magnetic armature or mobile part made up of the magnetic element itself and carrying a nonmagnetic slip. Such moving items in relays and contactors are subject to strong mechanical shocks as they move from energised to de-energised states. Also due to remnant magnetic effects a neat, clean break does not occur on de-energising the coil. To overcome these effects a high reluctance gap is established by including on the soft iron armature an alloy such as bronze in the form of a 0.03 to 0.50 m.m. insert at any suitable position on the armature.
