Abstract

The motor has a casing with a drive shaft. Several axial cylinders are arranged round the shaft and each contains a piston. The shaft carries a cam-shaped swashplate which runs through slots in the casing and slots in the pistons. Each piston slot contains a roller by which the piston presses on the swashplate. The casing has openings for admission and exhaust of air and these communicate with circumferential grooves in the shaft. The grooves are connected to longitudinal passages in the shaft which bring the air to the cylinder ports and take the exhaust air out from the ports. This method of introducing and exhausting air enables a motor of large power to be contained in a small volume.
