In a rotary vibrator wherein an inner cylinder 2 is rolled around an outer cylinder 1, or vice versa, by compressed air or other fluid, one of the cylinders having a longitudinal slot housing a radially movable blade 9 dividing the space between the cylinders into two chambers 14, 15 communicating respectively with inlet and outlet passages 8, 12, the blade 9 rides on a loose intermediate cylinder 3 which limits the chamber size, and hence limits the fluid consumption, while allowing a large eccentricity between the cylinders 1, 2. As shown the cylinder 1 is fixed and has end abutments 4, 5 slidably engaged by the rolling cylinders 2, 3. Fluid is admitted through a duct 7 and radial bores 8 in the cylinder 1 and exhausted through openings 12 in the abutments 4, 5, the bores and openings being on opposite sides of the blade 9. In another arrangement the end abutments, fluid passages and radially movable blade are provided on the rotatable inner cylinder, the blade riding on the inner periphery of the intermediate cylinder. In a modification of this arrangement the inner cylinder is fixed and the end abutments thereon are radially extended to carry a fixed cylindrical shell surrounding the rolling outer cylinder.
