Abstract

The stressing wires (3r are dispersed uniformly in the concrete section, the concrete being in intimate contact with the steel sleeve and one end of the concrete tube projecting freely beyond the steel sleeve. Annular end plates (4, 5) are used to terminally anchor the stressing wires; the plate (4) at the fixed end being welded to the outer steel tube. The pile or pier for use in foundations or support structures combines the low friction of the steel exterior with the compressive strength of the concrete and achieves a section of enhanced strength in flexure.
