Abstract
1305629 Prestressed concrete structures TAISEI KENSETSU KK 15 Sept 1970 44093/ 70 Heading E1W A cylindrical or tapered hollow concrete structure, such as a tank or a pressure vessel, is prestressed by wrapping prestressing elements circumferentially around the structure and spaced therefrom by wedge blocks 5 or 13 which are situated on surfaces, e.g. 2a which diverge either from the longitudinal axis of the structure (Fig. 3) or from the circular arc forming the circumference at any point therealong (Fig. 11), these blocks being forced outwardly away from the axis of the structure along said surfaces by jacks, e.g. 4 or 14. If the structure is tapered, Fig. 5 (not shown) the outer surface diverges from the axis and no ridges are needed. The divergent surfaces may be formed by stepped longitudinal ribs (Fig. 7 not shown) which may cover the whole surface (Fig. 10, not shown), with the steps not in alignment. Alternatively, circumferential ribs (as in Fig. 3) or longitudinal ribs, (as in Fig. 11), may be provided. After stressing, cement or wedges are used to replace the jacks. A further layer of concrete, suitably shaped, may be cast on the outside of the structure and similarly stressed, Fig. 8 (not shown).
