Abstract

The method of clamping used does not impair the strength of the pipe. Half the sleeve fits over the first pipe and the wedge element serves to widen the gap in the sleeve, being supported in a slot diametrically opposite the gap. The fixing element fits through a hold in the sleeve and consists of a bolt that bears against the wedge element, forcing it down as it is tightened. This causes the sleeve gap to spread. The sleeve fits in a metal ring with the same cross section as the pipe. This acts as a guide to fit the sleeve over the pipe ends.
