Abstract

The multi-start thread screw rotor (1) with threads (2) is mounted on a shaft (3) and engages the teeth (6) of the pinion (4) mounted on the shaft (5). The pinion teeth (6) have the one flank (13) longer on the low pressure side than the other flank (14) so that the surface of the tip of the tooth is oblique to the radius. The worm teeth are of corresponding form to the pinion teeth. The effect of this shape of tooth is that the gas is compressed to a much smaller volume at the instant that the space between consecutive worm teeth communicates with the delivery port yet the time for the gas to flow through the port is not reduced.
