Abstract

1,132,927. Screw-and-nut gearing; bearings. SOC. GENEVOISE D'INSTRUMENTS DE PHYSIQUE. 14 Oct., 1966 [26 Oct., 1965], No. 45975/66. Headings F2A and F2Q. In a screw-and-nut device, liquid under pressure is supplied to helical grooves 3, 4 having closed ends and formed in the thread flanks of the nut 1 to hydrostatically support the screw 2. P.T.F.E. seals (11) (Fig. 1, not shown), clamped to the ends of the nut engage the screw-thread. The pressurized liquid is supplied through passages 5, 6, 7 by a pump (16) which draws from a closed reservoir (15) the air space of which is kept at low pressure by a vacuum pump (19). Return liquid passes through a passage 8 from the root and crest clearances of the interengaging threads to the reservoir.
