Abstract

995,600. Fluid-pressure apparatus. FLO-TORK Inc. Feb. 17, 1964 [Feb. 15, 1963], No. 6514/64. Heading F1P. A fluid pressure actuator comprises a body 10 having a gear chamber 12 intersected by a bore 25 through which passes a tube 26 forming a cylinder 27 for an axially movable double-acting piston 28, the tube having end caps 41, 42 secured to the body 10 by tie-rods (not shown) and an opening 29 which allows a pinion located in the chamber 12 to engage a rack 30 formed on the piston 28. The pinion 18, is integral with, or secured to, an output shaft journalled in bearings in the body 10. The end caps 41, 42 are provided with ports 46, 47 through which fluid can be supplied or exhausted to effect the required direction of rotation of the output shaft. The tube 26 has an intermediate diameter portion 37 which is a press fit in the body 10 against a shoulder 39. The stroke of the piston 28 is adjustable by internally and externally threaded stops 81 screwed into the ends of the piston and locked by screws 82. In an alternative method of adjusting the stroke (Fig. 5, not shown) internally threaded washers of the desired thickness are located on the inside of the caps 41, 42. In a second construction the pinion is additionally rotated by a second piston movable in a tube located in a second bore on the opposite side of the chamber.
