Abstract
The grey mirror with selective reflection in the visual spectral region is prepd. by heating the glass substrate to 240-260 degrees C, placing the substrate in a chamber which is evacuated to max. 10-5mm Hg. The glass substrate is rotated while galena is evaporated at 550-570 degrees C. The galena has the compsn. 82-84% Pb, 11-13% S, 0.008-0.012% Zn, 0.0008-0.0012% Cu, 0.025-0.028% Ag, 0.90-1.1% Fe, and usual impurities. The vapour deposit is obtained at a rate of 3.6 x 103 - 4.4 x 103 angstroms/mm to give a thickness of 1.8-2.2 micron. Heating is effected in a Mo- or W resistance furnace.
