Class 82(2) [Also in Groups XX and XXIII] A heat - insulating splinter-proof laminated glass comprising several layers 1, 2 of glass joined by an adhesive intermediate layer 3 has, on the external surface of the glass layer 1 which is to face heat radiation, a very thin deposit 4a, b of metal having a high heat reflectance but sufficient transparency for visible light. Preferably a thicker layer 4b of metal is deposited over a first layer 4a together with a protective layer 5 over the metal layers and a layer 6 on the outer surface of the laminate glass layer 2 to reduce the reflection of the visible light rays. Layers 1, 2 may be of silicon glass, the layer 1 preferably being hardened glass, the layer 3 of polyvinyl butyral, the metal of layer 4a being chromium or copper and that of layer 4b gold, silver, plat inum, nickel, copper or an alloy of such metals. Preferably the metal is deposited from the gas phase in vacuum, as by vapour deposition or cathode sputtering.
