Abstract

Before casting, the steel is treated in the ladle to reduce the 0 content to 600-1600 ppm and Si to 0.02% by addn. of FeMn and C. The steel is then decarburised by a vacuum treatment to reduce the C content to max. 0.10%, pref. 0.020% which is followed by deoxidation with Al, or Al and Ti. The steel contg. max. 150 ppm free 0 is continuously cast into bar having the compn. (max) 0.02%, 0.6%Mn, 0.005% diss. Al, 0.005% Ti including Ti oxide, and below 0.02% Si, balance Fe and usual impurities. Suitable for shet and strip.
